Auntie Social Lounge
A funky fresh new spot has arrived in Newton, with red velvet booths, lava lamps and retro furniture.
Put down your phone and raid your parents' vintage 'fits — a groovy 70s-themed bar has opened in Wellington ready to bring all the throwback vibes.
Auntie Social Lounge is Newton's newest spot where nostalgia is the name of the game, thanks to its interior fit out of furry walls, red velvet booths, lava lamps and retro furniture.
The colourful cocktail menu includes a weekly rotating margarita ($16) or an eye-watering (and very Instagrammable) Blue Mary ($17) as well as a selection of local brews (both in the fridge and on tap) and a short-but-sweet — and very reasonably priced — wine list.
To line the tum you can grab some sharing plates like ribs ($20), confit pork belly ($20), or one of the vegan sharing platters ($18) — or just opt for a nostalgic pairing of gourmet popcorn ($8) and crudites ($14). Make sure to head in on a cheesy Tuesday for a melting pot of three cheese fondue served out of retro fondue pots.
With funky energy and weekly live music sessions, put this spot on your list for a night out with friends asap.
