Gipsy Kitchen Delicatessen
Accurately self-described as "a special wee diddy, tucked away and ready for you to discover".
We found Gipsy Kitchen by accident. Driving down Broadway towards Scorching Bay beach for a bonfire, we were contemplating being a bit lazy and making a stop by the fish and chip shop when an intriguing little homemade sign perched on the left side of the road invited passing cars to take a right onto Glamis Avenue for the 'Gipsy Kitchen'. Shrugging our shoulders, we parked up outside of this affable joint, which describes itself as "a special wee diddy, tucked away and ready for you to discover".
In other words, welcome to your new favourite cafe/restaurant. That is, if you're a fan of fresh pastries, sandwiches, pasta, burritos, pies or just food in general. And for those who especially like post-work drinks and nibbles, they also have a pretty amazing-looking tapas and drinks menu, which you can enjoy sitting at one of a few candlelit tables inside.
Caught in the 5pm munchies lurch, I tried the salmon mousetrap, which came with in-house smoked salmon, capers, a lemon slice, coriander and onions, all on top of some freshly baked toast. Amazing. Not that one can ever go wrong with the capers/salmon/lemon/coriander situation, but the way these guys assembled their textures, portion sizing and different hints of flavours was something of an art.
For dessert, I had their tiramisu, which nailed that perfect creamy texture tiramisu's known for, as well as having just the right hints of coffee.
Tucked away and ready for you to discover, Gipsy does not overpromise anything but delivers everything.
